Birth Sisters..Is there pain..Heartache?

As we are all getting ready to head to Awana this evening..

My sweet, smart, precious MyMy came to me... She said "Mom, can I wear my hair like this????"

I said.."Its a little messy, go get me a brush and I will redo it for you."

She then came to me after about 10 minutes with this picture....

A picture of her birth sister, at 6 years old-the exact same age she is now.

"THIS IS WHY I want to wear my hair like this tonight..Is that okay?"

Their resemblence is undeniable...

She did her hair as an EXACT REPLICA of her sisters down to the piece of hair hanging down on the right side...

With tears in my eyes...thinking of missing out on my child hood with my own 3 birth sisters... "OF COURSE!" I said.

I wonder what is going on inside her precious little mind..

I know one thing, we need to get these girls together very soon..

If you are an adoptive parent out there and you are wondering whether or not you should be "open" or get together with your kids birth siblings... YOU SHOULD!

If you know they have birth siblings and you don't know where they are...  LOOK FOR THEM!

You will not regret it..

Now excuse me please... I have to go make some phone calls and arrange some play dates for my children with their siblings...

Wow, that's heartbreaking. They look like twins! It's great that you have the opportunity to get them together.

So true! We have kept our adoptions open as much as possible. It has been such a blessing for all involved.

I couldn't agree more! I just met my siblings a couple of years back.

Thank you for posting this! We plan to have the siblings get together once a year and know one another. I have had some nervousness about this decision and I'm so glad you posted this. Puts my heart at ease. :)

They look sooo much alike...WOW. This brought a tear to my eye. I don't know if you know this, but Cade is adopted and it's a different situation but I really struggle with this..I used to let him see his biological siblings but we called them "friends"... His adoption and it's "secretness" has been on my heart lately and in my prayers.
That was so precious of your sweet girl to want to look like her sister. I grew up without my bio sister and my heart used to ache for her..

Beautiful post and beautiful little girl! :) I'm a fellow adoptive mom and "Angel" (2009) and read your blog a while back, but somehow JUST found you again. :) My husband and I are working full-time now with a ministry we started in 2008 called "Project Belong" to promote adoption and foster care to the churches of Kansas. :) If you're interested in learning more, you can find us on Facebook or ProjectBelong.org! :) Blessings to you!

So glad I read your post today! Both of my girls are adopted. My youngest we have a very open adoption. My oldest, her birthmom has no contact. We do know that her birthmom had three other children and placed them all for adoption. We have been considering trying to contact one of the siblings. Our daughter does not know she has any other siblings. She's only 7 and we are just very unsure on how to handle this.

Your post has made me realize that we really need to contact the sibling and hopefully the other adoptive family will want to have contact with us. I think at least having a sibling to connect with would be better than having no contact with any of her birthfamily.
